The Pharmacopoeia does not make any evaluation of all kinds of testing techniques, and emphasizes technical requirements only.
(1)The total organic carbon test technology should be able to distinguish the inorganic carbon (carbon dioxide dissolved in water and the carbon dioxide produced by the decomposition of bicarbonate) and organic carbon (carbon dioxide produced by the oxidation of organics), and can exclude the interference of inorganic carbon to the test of organic carbon.
(2) It should meet the requirements of system suitability verification.
(3) It should have enough test sensitivity (the minimum detection limit is that the carbon content is equal to or less than 50ppb in every liter).
